Project Overview
This design is the first of a two part project. This logo and brand design is for a conceptual app that helps groups of people make travel plans. As someone who likes going on trips with my friend group, I found that it would be helpful and convenient to have an app that makes planning easy. This first part of my project was to create a brand name and logo that would be appealing and fun for those looking into group travel.
Why
Conceptual Project
Sketching & Brainstorming
I brainstormed a few possible names, notably those that were terms used when groups of animals travel together. I soon settled on the name gaggle, which is a group of geese that travel and migrate together. Not only did I think this was a fun name but I thought it flowed well with the subtitle of "for group travel".

In this brainstorming phase I also created mood boards with photos that I felt represented what kind of vibe I wanted the logo, brand, and app to have.
Additionally, I pulled some colors from these images and created some color palettes that I reference later in my design process.

Logo Concept & Meaning
I knew I wanted to incorporate a goose in the logo so I was playing with what style and fonts would work best. I decided to settle on the "Gaggle" name with the three G's having a goose silhouette.

This Gaggle Logo uses a simple font (FULBO) to aid in readability. I chose this font because it also had soft curves which help convey a fun and flexible tone.

As stated above, the "Gaggle" logo has three goose silhouettes present in the three G's. This reiterates the purpose of the brand and app - planning group trips for 3+ people.

The A and E were customized from the original font to add a more personalized touch for the Gaggle brand.

The subtitle of "for group travel" was added in to help give context on the purpose of the app. It also flows well with the Gaggle name.

After creating the main logo, I began designing some variations and other design assets. I ended up selecting the submark and patterns I thought were the best.

Color Palette
Choosing a color palette was one of the harder parts in the brand design for Gaggle. I had pulled colors from the mood board that I made in the early stages of my design process.
All my color palette options had some for of blue because that color is usually associated with modernity, dependability, and reliability. I also like associating blue with the color of the sky and sea which are often used as imagery in relation with travel.

I ended up going with a combination of two of the color palette options I had. I decided on blue and an off white color for the main colors and a black and yellow accent colors.
After choosing my color palette, I applied it to all the various logo forms and other design assets in a Style Guide.
